Do you have an angle that they don’t? Can you sell yourself better than most? Are you special stylisically? How are your storytelling skills? Do possess the organizational and vocal skills to take your audience on an emotional journey but still leave them uplifted? Do you leave a job knowing that the meeting planner feels he got more than his money’s worth.

Just a few things that make a master.

Yes, I found this subject interesting and agree with almost all of your points. You probably could write a whole post on each myth. Public speaking advice certainly follows Sturgeon’s Law that “Ninety percent of everything is crap.” Back on July 10th I asked: Is the advice you’re getting about public speaking almost as ancient as a fossilized trilobite?

I also once looked up where the naked version of #4 came from, and was surprised to see it was Winston Churchill. (Check the naked audience label on my blog).

You mentioned “raising the steaks.” I suspect you really meant stakes, but couldn’t you also raise a deep dish pizza?
